Here are few ideas to help to unpack this week’s story further:
CHAT:
Use the following questions to chat and think about the story of Jesus meeting the Centurion:
The Centurions faith was so great that it even amazed Jesus! How would you describe what ‘faith’ is?
What sort of things do you find easy to believe in?
What sort of things do you find hard to believe in?
Do you believe that God can do anything? Why?/why not?
Why do you think it can sometimes be hard to have faith?
PRAY:
This story shows Jesus’ incredible power when He healed the Centurion’s servant from a distance. Knowing this, think about the following questions:
‘If you could ask God anything, what would it be?’
‘If you could ask God to do anything, what would it be?’
Take a moment to pray and ask for these things and have faith that God will answer. However, we also need to acknowledge that God doesn’t always answer our prayers with a ‘yes’ or in the way we might like. Not because He’s mean, but because He knows what the best thing for us is!
DO:
Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.
Set a 2-minute timer and, on one side, write down as many ideas as you can think of about how to look out for, care for and love, others.
Then, set another 2 – minute timer and, on the other side of the paper, write down people you know – family members, friends, church community, teachers, neighbours etc.
Using what you have written, put together an action to do something caring for someone you know. Talk to a grown-up you trust about your idea and get going!
