This home-learning project investigates how belief in the authority of the Bible affects Christians’ lives. Students will consider how Christian beliefs are relevant to the 21st Century society
Students will familiarise themselves with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. They will reproduce the themes within the parable, creating a modern-day version. Having reflected on the lessons that can be taken from the parable, students will then move into examining the work of a Christian charity: The Salvation Army. The final task is a response to an evaluation style question. This will build upon their essay writing skills, and their understanding, as they consider the relevance of Jesus’ teachings in the 21st century.
An editable PDF resource sheet is provided for students to record their research. The resource sheet is differentiated, with two levels to choose from. The ‘Stretch’ version is more challenging, it is advised that most students use this copy. The ‘Light’ version has pared down tasks and support, for example sentence starters.
By the end of the project students will understand how Christians look to the Bible for guidance in life; that their faith drives them to help people. This project should take around 4 hours to complete if the extension activities are attempted. Ideally this project should be completed after the ‘Christian Beliefs and Practices’ project.
