This Home Learning Project investigates how belief in the authority of the Bible affects Christians’ lives. Students will consider how Christian beliefs are relevant to the 21st century society.
Students will investigate the nature of social justice by examining the articles within the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Students will then read and analyse the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. Having reflected on the lessons that can be taken from the parable, students will then move into researching the work of five Christian charities who work to promote social justice across the world. This is followed by a creative task, for which they are required to create a social media advert for one of the five charities, with an emphasis to be placed on the Christian basis of the charity.
An editable PDF resource sheet is provided for students to record their work. The resource sheet is differentiated, with two levels to choose from. The ‘Stretch’ version is more challenging, it is advised that most students use this copy. The ‘Light’ version has pared down tasks and support, for example sentence starters.
By the end of the project students will understand how Christians look to the Bible for guidance in life; that their faith drives them to seek social justice. This project should take around 4 hours to complete if the extension activities are attempted. Ideally this project should be completed after the ‘Christian Beliefs and Practices’ project.
