From the moment God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone,” to the time we were confined to our homes for months, we’ve known that human beings aren’t meant to face challenges without the support and encouragement of others.

At Youth for Christ, we believe in the beauty, power, and passion of the local church. If young people’s lives are going to be transformed by Jesus, it will happen in and through the local church.

This is why we created Pulse – to invite churches into collaborative pockets of community through the Pulse Learning Communities.

What is a Pulse Learning Community?

A Pulse Learning Community is part of the Pulse Network.

For Pulse Learning Communities, we use this definition:

“A group of peers who come together in a safe space to reflect and share their judgments and uncertainties about their practice, and to exchange ideas or experiences to collectively improve.”

In a Pulse Learning Community, we bring together teams of youth ministry practitioners to reflect on what we’re doing, where we want to go, and how we’re going to get there. It’s a hosted space that facilitates peer-to-peer accountability and support, right where you are.

How does it work?

A Pulse Learning Community begins when at least three local churches (or members of a Pulse Gathering) come together to share their best practices and their biggest questions. Over the course of 12 months, we’ll meet three times to eat, pray, strategise, and cheer each other on. Discussions will be guided through the lens of the Youth for Christ 4D model of mission, to birth, nurture, and sharpen ministry to young people at the local level.

How can we get involved?

We’re always on the lookout for churches who want to give this a go. If you’re ready to explore, here’s where to start…

1. Imagine the possibilities.
Whether you’re a youth leader, church leader, or volunteer responsible for youth work, head over to the Pulse home page and the Pulse Gathering page to get a feel for what Pulse is all about. If you believe Pulse Learning Communities could be a great next step for your area, it’s time to start discussing it with your fellow local youth leaders.

2. Think it through with like-minded churches.
The Pulse Learning Community concept thrives in the context of community. You may already have connections with other local churches or perhaps even have a Pulse Gathering up and running. Start by reaching out to those you know and explore whether a Learning Community could be a useful tool for your area. Share these pages with them to provide some context and discuss it together.

3. Get in touch with us.
Once you’ve gathered a group of 3 or more churches interested in Pulse Learning Communities, reach out to us by emailing us at pulse@yfc.co.uk or just fill out the form below with your details. We’ll guide you through the process of determining whether and when a Learning Community could begin in your area. You’ll receive all the information you need, and there’s no obligation to move forward after the meeting. We’re here to help you figure out what works best for your context.
