I’m writing to inform you about a data security incident involving Beacon CRM, the third‑party system we use to manage information relating to our donors, supporters and subscribers.
Beacon CRM notified us that an unauthorised third party had accessed its systems and likely downloaded copies of their database back‑ups. This incident is not specific to British Youth for Christ and may affect all organisations using Beacon CRM.
At present, we are not aware of any misuse of personal information. However, in the interest of transparency, we want to make you aware of what happened and what it may mean for you.
The information we store within Beacon CRM may include:
– Name
– Postal address
– Email address
– Telephone number
– Donation information and activity
– Gift Aid status
Rest assured, Beacon CRM does not store bank or card details. All financial information remains secure with trusted third‑party payment processors.
Since being notified, we have:
– Completed Beacon CRM’s security checklist
– Assessed potential risks to individuals whose information we hold
– Considered our legal obligations under data protection law
– Reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
– Continued to monitor developments as Beacon’s investigation progresses
-Reviewed the incident with our Board of Trustees
There is no action you need to take at this time. However, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant for unexpected emails, phone calls, messages or communications claiming to be from British Youth for Christ or from Beacon.
We understand that this news is deeply concerning, and we are very sorry for any worry it may cause. Protecting your information is extremely important to us, and we are committed to keeping you informed. Beacon continues to work with external cyber security experts to manage this incident. If further information becomes available that affects you, we will update you directly.
If you have any questions, please email lesley.taberer@yfc.co.uk and we will keep you updated through our website and by email on the incident.
Meanwhile, I would ask for your prayers for all organisations and Christian ministries that have been affected by this data breach. Pray that the incident is contained and for wisdom and peace to be given to Beacon and our Youth for Christ team.
Thank you,
Yours in Christ,
Dave Brackenridge
Interim National Director
British Youth for Christ
