This Home Learning Project investigates the Bible. Students will explore its structure, how it is used and why it is so important to Christians.
Students will consider their own favourite books: what makes them special. Links are drawn between their chosen book and the specialness of the Bible to Christians. They will spend some time exploring the structure of the Bible, producing either a written or creative piece which explains this.
Students will examine why the Bible is important to Christians, before conducting an in-depth investigation into how they use the Bible. They are presented with a number of Bible extracts, which they will evaluate to decipher how a Christian might have their attitudes or behaviour affected. They will move on to consider the authenticity and relevancy of the Bible in the 21st century, following links to RE:quest to gather information.
There is a final, creative task, where students are required to create a Bible theme park. They will draw upon their learning on the topic, with the finished outcome providing evidence of their learning. An example of a theme park map is included as a model for their own piece.
By the end of the project students will gain a thorough understanding of how Christians use the Bible and why it is so important to them. This project should take around 4 hours to complete if the extension activities are attempted.
An editable PDF resource sheet is provided for students to record their research. The resource sheet is differentiated, with two levels to choose from. The ‘Stretch’ version is more challenging, it is advised that most students use this copy. The ‘Light’ version has pared down tasks and support, for example sentence starters and a partially completed task
